Artist Statement

I enjoy to creating portraits and visual narratives inspired by everyday life. I hope to celebrate the individuality of everyday people and the stories they tell. My earliest paintings were inspired by my sons and their friends as they grew from childhood into adulthood. Today, my work has expanded to include the river towns near my home, the vibrant urban landscapes of New York City and Philadelphia, and other places that capture my ongoing fascination with the people, places, and quiet moments that define our lives.

Working primarily in watercolor, I create genre scenes in both full color and black and white that explore themes of connection, memory, and community. I paint on both paper and Aquabord, selecting each surface for the unique qualities it brings to the mood, texture, and character of the work. I am drawn to watercolor for its transparency and luminosity, as well as the way pigments mingle, layer, and interact on the surface to create subtle shifts of color, light, and atmosphere.
