Artist Statement

I feel lucky to have discovered my passion for art early in life. My creative interests led me to art school and eventually to a career as an illustrator and graphic designer. In 2012, I shifted my focus to watercolor painting and entered my first local juried art show, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Along this journey, I’ve been fortunate to receive support, encouragement, and meaningful friendships that have helped shape my growth as an artist.

I found inspiration for my early works close to home, with many of my paintings depicting my sons and their friends as they grew from children into young adults. Over time, I have expanded my focus, finding inspiration in the river towns near where I live, as well as the dynamic urban landscapes of New York City and Philadelphia. I am continually inspired by the diversity of the world around me.

Watercolor allows me to express both my personality and my role as an observer. I’m drawn to the fluidity and transparency of the medium, and I relish the unexpected beauty that arises when pigments blend with water. While I traditionally work on paper, I’ve also been experimenting with watercolor boards and exploring limited color palettes, including black and white. As a genre painter, I’m especially drawn to portraits and scenes that capture the everyday lives of people around me. As an avid people-watcher, I believe the world would be a boring place if everyone were the same, and I’m fascinated by what makes each of us unique. Capturing a likeness is a challenge I enjoy, but I’m more drawn to the character of my subjects and hope to leave viewers with a sense of a story.

It has been an honor to have my work exhibited across the United States, and I am always grateful when a painting is selected for an exhibition or recognized with an award. Each experience continues to motivate and inspire me on this ongoing creative journey.
